The animals are both the most famous and rarest of the Nasca lines. They are variations of the simple line, rather than the trapesoid, i.e. the area enclosed has not been cleared.
In fact many of the drawings do not enclose an area. Instead some can be approached from afar via a straight nasca line, which then winds its ways around the whole image before running off somewhere as a straight line again. There is little agreement as to why.
