As with the dog, this has clearly been a bit of a thoroughfare for more modern traffic.

It's said that no one knew they were there until aeroplanes flew over. However, it would surely be hard to drive across those deliberately constructed straight lines running to the horizon without realising something was there. What's surprising is that no one bothered to investigate.
