The Nasca Lines

The Nasca "lines", were made by removing loose dark pebbles from the desert surface to reveal the white soil beneath. The Trapesoids are a variation, in which an area is cleared of dark pebbles, which are often piled around the perimeter, leaving a light shape surrounded by a dark perimeter.
